9 Time Management Strategies To Help You Earn More

9 Time Management Strategies to Help You Earn More

Time element is a crucial factor if we are aiming to be successful in our chosen field.  No other things can substitute than giving focus on a certain activity. A combination of time, dedication, and hard work will help us achieve our goals.  No matter how knowledgeable we are, if we didn’t give enough time to our goal, chances are we will fail at the end. Failure will always be the endpoint for lack of time and focus.

It is understandable when friends would inquire about working online and yet after some time, they would tell me that they couldn’t do it because of lack of time. I know the feeling because I am in the same position. I have a full-time job… a day job.

The only difference is the strategies we apply.

Time constraint will always be a reason, though, for me, this is not an acceptable excuse. I always believe that if we want something, we will always find a way.

I have been in the government service for more than seven years. As an officer, I could be assigned anywhere. In fact, I have been transferred ten times in the span of 7 years in service. We cannot question that because that is our commitment to appointment.

One critical issue that I encountered was being assigned to a place where there was no internet connection available. During that time, I would rely on my pocket wifi. The connection was really slow that it would take some time before I could upload anything. But that won’t be enough to stop me from reaching my goal.

Time Management is an Essential Element

If we are going to wait for the right time or should I say, for the time that we are no longer busy, I tell you, that won’t come. You will always be running out of time. We won’t be able to cope with our commitments. We can never start reaching our goals and before we knew it, we are in the same position as we were before. No improvement at all and worst, others had already gone miles away, while we can’t start.

Just like money, time is a very important thing that we should learn to handle properly. We have to learn to live with the limited time that we have. The time that passed can no longer be recovered. We should make use of every second wisely. As the saying goes, “time is gold.”

There’s no reason for us not to be successful while others can. We were all given 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week and 365 days in a year. The amount of time given to us is no less than the amount of time given to the successful people that we know.

How Effective Is Our Time Management Strategy?

The effectiveness of our actions and strategies can be measured by the outcome we got. Different situations may call for different strategies. We may have the same number of hours in a day but we may have different circumstances. We have different abilities and skills and we are different from one another. Try picking out which strategy perfectly suits us and stick to that.

In business, we should learn to manage our time effectively and efficiently.

Here are the 9 Time Management Strategies that can help you earn more in your online work even if you have a full-time job.

1. Make a Schedule and Stick to It

Having a schedule of our daily work routine can help us in tracking our progress. The schedule we made will serve as our guide so that we will be able to know our current stage. This way, we will eliminate misappropriation of our time for unnecessary activities.

2. Prioritize Based on Importance

One popular tool we can use is the Eisenhower Importance and Urgency Matrix. This was popularized by Stephen Covey in his book 7 Qualities of Highly Effective People. This tool can be used when we are facing different tasks within a given period. The tool is divided into four (4) quadrants with different strategies.

urgency and important matrix
Importance and Urgency Matrix Quadrant

The first Quadrant is about Important and Urgent things. These particular tasks should be given priority over all other tasks at hand. Important and urgent tasks include commitments, deadlines, and emergencies. Knowing the most important thing we need to accomplish for the day is the best thing to do before we proceed with our day’s work.

The second Quadrant is about Important but not Urgent things. These should be considered as our second priority. Although these things are important, we can set a schedule on a later date. These could include, education or learn new skills that could improve our business.

The third Quadrant includes those tasks that are Urgent but Not Important which can take most of our time. These may include but not limited to phone calls and other interruptions. Sometimes we mistakenly consider these things as important but giving a full analysis, these things could eat much of our time without any good result. Try to reduce engagement on these kinds of activities.

The fourth Quadrant includes things that are Not Important and Not Urgent. These may include gossips, playing games and unnecessary social media activities. Break away from these activities.

Please do take note, however, that engaging in social media activities can sometimes a good activity depending on what kind of business we are into. If you are into internet marketing, blogging, writing, for sure social media presence is highly recommended.

3. Make Use of the Modern Gadgets

Modern Technology is continuously making improvement and making use of these improvements can certainly do a lot of things that would help us with our time management. Consider saving for the latest and innovative gadgets and equipment. These may include printers with built-in scanners and Bluetooth/wifi enabled printing method, power banks, and latest mobile phones. These types of equipment and devices can be a good help if properly managed.

I personally make use of these gadgets especially the mobile phone which I use for browsing articles and engaging in other worthwhile online activities while I am traveling. Interacting with the community, make schedules, close deals and update my calendar of activities. I also make use of mobile phones to send and retrieve email messages. With the present situation when everything can come in handy, doing our work at any given period of the day is such a convenience.

4. Delegate Not-so Important Things

Once we prioritize our daily tasks using the important and urgency matrix( #2 above), we will be able to know those important tasks that we need to address. Sometimes, important things flooded our list. Try delegating those that would fall under less important activities.

Trying to do everything on our own can be time-consuming. There may be tasks that do not need our personal attention and can be taken care of by other family members or other people in the household. We can delegate household chores to other members of the family so that we can focus on the more important things.

5. Hire a Virtual Assistant (Outsourcing)

It wouldn’t be advisable to try to do all things on our own. there are certainly some or two things that we need for our business yet we have a little to no knowledge about. If learning can consume much of our time, outsourcing can be a great option. We can hire other people or virtual assistants to do other tasks that are necessary for the success of our business.

6. Make Use Your Time Off

As an employee, we usually have time-off from our job. There are times that we taken these privileges for granted or we simply do not know that we have these.

A government employee is entitled to:

  • 15 days vacation leave and 15 days sick leave in a year (5 days of the total leave privileges are considered force leave)
  • 3 days Special Privilege Leave
  • Other Leave benefits

As a field worker, I don’t usually avail of these leave privileges before because of my goal to finish my job. But in the end, I realized that I was being too hard on myself.  I could instead use these time off to give time for my online business.

7. Use Online Tools

There are several online tools which can help us facilitate our work. Having a knowledge on how these tools could help u in order to facilitate our work will certainly help us in achieving our goals at a less time. Learning how to use these tools can greatly improve our performance.

8. Work With a Group

Working with a right group can definitely make our life easier. Social media groups can help us in addressing concerns that we cannot do on our own. It is simply because there are things that other people might know better.

9. Multitask When Needed

Girls are known for being a great multitasker but it doesn’t mean that boys can’t do it. Although multi-tasking is not advisable at all times since it might compromise the quality of work. But there are certain instances when we can apply this method in order to achieve most tasks at a given time.

On the final thought:

Although I know that I cannot give up my day job without an assurance of having a good source of income afterward. That is why as long as I have a little free time, I would make use of it to learn new skills and abilities that could help me on my dream of having a passive income.

I don’t intend to work until the age of 65. My plan is to retire earlier in order to enjoy my time. I would love to travel around the world. I would want to reach more places and to be able to do what I enjoy. And only if I can achieve the complete freedom that I can say, I am successful.

  4. Certainly, we need to balance a lot of things on our plate. And multitasking can be an important skill. But I read recently that those who multitask ultimately do a worse job than those who focus on one task at a time. I am not sure how I felt about that but I remember reading it recently.

  5. Time management is really important.By creating a schedule and follow it while giving priority for the most important tasks is my favourite way to complete the daily tasks…

  6. These are all great strategies for managing time when you want to earn more money. It is so important I believe prioritizes the must dos over wants. Thanks for sharing the tips.

  8. These are all great tips…. It’s like this was written for me, because I so need to delegate much more. I prefer doing things myself because I know they’ll get done correctly. I do multitask, which doesn’t always proves to be beneficial for me. I like focusing on one thing at a time. Babysteps…I’ll get there 😉

  9. I like everything you shared about in this post, especially the Urgency Matrix by Stephen Covey. I should start compartmentalising my daily tasks and activities using this method!

  10. Blogging as a job doesn’t appeal to me so much. If only working like this didn’t mean more work from your boss!

  11. Really awesome post! My time management strategy is to turn off all of social media with an app which locks them down and also block youtube during working hours!

  12. I have found that I really need to be flexible. I have a basic schedule, but because of medical disabilities, there are times when I have to throw my schedule out the window. When this happens, I use the priority system and anything that isn’t essential gets swept under the rug, so to speak.
Thank goodness, as a mother of ten, I’ve learned to multitask. If it weren’t for that skill, I’d be up the creek without a paddle

  13. This article I should say is so useful… Managing time is the main thing during this pregnancy for me so I try to multi task whenever possible 😊👍🏼

    1. Multi tasking is one of the things that I often do. There are times that I would be working simultaneously with several sites that I have. However, too much multi-tasking may not be effective because we tend to divide our focus. But if there is no other way, this strategy would work.

  14. These are helpful strategies for time management Sharon. I am going to check out some other articles on your blog as well since I have just started my blog , I am new at this and open to learning.
