What is PayPal and how important it is in online freelancing?
Basically, before we begin working, the first thing we would like to know is how we will be paid.
How do I get paid for my work?
Do I need to open a bank account?
Will they send me checks?
I frequently received questions related to online working specifically about payment. Apparently, the monetary aspect is the main concern of almost everyone who is interested in starting an online career. That is understandable since we need to make sure we get will be paid before we set out to work.
Online sites may opt to pay you for the work you’ve done through different payment processors. Every day, more and more money processing sites are opening along with the growing numbers of online opportunities. But the most common among online workers is PayPal. That is why online workers, marketers, traders, networkers and other freelancers are doing their best in order to have a verified PayPal account.
Being an online worker, we need to adapt to changes that may occur as we continue our journey in this fast-paced changing environment. Policies may be modified anytime and we should be aware of these to ensure a smooth transaction especially with that concerning money. After all, that is the primary reason why we are working online. Anything can happen in a split of a second. As the saying goes, the only thing that remains constant is change.
I have written an article about opening an account several years ago and I guess I need to make an updated version that could be used by incoming members. There are some minor changes on the sign-up page creating some confusion over new members.
First of all, be ready with your email and keep it open in another tab for fast reference. Another reminder is that when you are planning to work online, make sure you create a new email account specifically for that purpose. This would make your transactions easier and more organized.
Below are the updated steps for creating a PayPal Account:
Step 1. Go directly to www.paypal.com and click Sign Up Now. You will be directed to a new page with the two options, Buy with PayPal and Receive Payment with PayPal. Choose Buy with PayPal – Click Get Started. This is the same as personal account while the other option would be suitable for online businesses. The only difference the new sign up page with the previous sign up page was that the old one has three (3) options personal, premier and business while the present only has two, Buy with PayPal and Receive Payment with PayPal.
Step 2. Upon clicking the Receive payment with PayPal option, another blank form will appear on the screen. On the same page, you will be required to enter your email address and preferred password for your account.
Step 3. You need to enter your personal details, birth date, and National ID number on the form on the screen. Your phone number will be required in the next form.
Step 4. You will be receiving a notification from PayPal to verify your email. Proceed immediately to your email account and look for the message from PayPal requiring you to click a link for your email to be verified.
Congratulations! You now have a PayPal account.
But still, your account is unverified and you need either a Visa or Mastercard to verify your account. Apparently, unverified PayPal accounts are no longer accepted in most online working sites nowadays. There are several ways in order to verify PayPal account and the easiest and the most convenient way that I experienced is through the use of PayMaya.
